1. Ross-on-Wye

Ross-on-Wye is a small market town, with a population of around 9,574 in south eastern Herefordshire. It is located on the River Wye and on the edge of the Forest of Dean and is the southern gateway to Herefordshire, Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. The church of St Mary’s spire has shaped the skyline of Ross-on-Wye for over 700 years, which has become an iconic landmark for Ross-on-Wye.

2. Berrington Hall

Berrington Hall is a fine Georgian mansion, full of history which sits within garden and landscape. In the beautiful parkland, you can explore Brown’s work and other exhibitions. If you fancy a look inside the house, you will find jewel-like interiors, which were designed by Henry Holland and home to the Harley, Rodney and Cawley families. 3. Hereford Cider Museum

The Hereford Cider Museum is housed in a former cider making factory at Pomona Place, Hereford and was the birthplace of Bulmer’s Cider. It shows an interesting look into how cider has been made over the centuries and has various interactive displays to discover, as well as audio visual presentations on the Cider Museum.

There are many cider presses, bottles and mills, old photographs and a rare collection of 18th century English cider flutes, which are made from lead crystal. It also has a cooper’s workshop, vat house and original champagne cider cellars to explore.

The museum is situated on the West of Hereford city and is a 10 minute walk away from the city centre. It is a great place to visit, especially if you’re a fan of cider and history!

4. Hereford Cathedral

Hereford Cathedral is located at Hereford in England, dating from 1079 and is a Grade1 listed building. Its most famous treasure is Mappa Mundi, a medieval map of the world which dates from the 13th century.

The cathedral has been a place of worship used since the Saxon times and contains some of the finest examples of architecture from Norman times to the current day. There are many guided tours which take place in the cathedral, where you can explore the interior of the building which runs at 11am and 2pm Monday to Saturday.

5. Mappa Mundi and Chained Library Exhibitions

Mappa Mundi & Chained Library Exhibitions at Hereford Cathedral is open throughout the year and famous for housing the medieval map of the world and the chained library.

The medieval map is the largest surviving medieval map of the world and is an international much loved treasure. It notes how the scholars interpreted the world over 700 years ago and hold over a thousand drawings and inscriptions, where you will see cities and towns, biblical events, plants, animals and much more.

The library holds 225 illuminated manuscripts from the 18th century and over 1,200 printed books. When you visit the library, you will get the chance to explore the exhibition and find out how many unique treasures were created. There are many guides and you can enjoy reading rare books, archives, and artifacts.

Haugh Woods Butterfly Trail has two trails that lead through the ancient Haugh Woods, which were started by the Forestry Commission and Butterfly Conservation. The trail allows everyone of all ages to enjoy the many butterflies that live there.

The peaceful woodland covers nearly 850 acres and is a very important site for butterflies and moths, with over 600 species living there!
